First Visit
You can help prevent tooth decay by scheduling your child's first dental visit when the first tooth appears or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. Early dental visits help establish healthy habits, monitor your child's oral development, and reduce the risk of cavities.
During your child's first visit, Dr. Ching will show you how to properly care for your child's teeth, discuss fluoride recommendations, and suggest the best oral care products for your child. He will also examine your child's mouth for early signs of tooth decay, evaluate oral development, and discuss habits such as thumb sucking or prolonged bottle use.
If your toddler has not yet visited the dentist, it's never too late to get started! Before the appointment, let your child know that Dr. Ching is a friendly dentist who helps keep children's smiles healthy. Talk about the visit in a positive, matter-of-fact way, just as you would any new experience. You can also show your child photos of our office on the Office Tour page so they can see that Children's Dentistry is a fun, welcoming, and child-friendly place.
During the first visit, you will remain with your child while Dr. Ching gently examines their teeth and gums, checking for cavities and monitoring healthy growth and development. Depending on your child's age and comfort level, a cleaning may also be completed during the visit. If additional care is needed, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled.
You play an essential role in maintaining your child's oral health. We encourage parents to partner with Dr. Ching and our team throughout their child's dental journey. Regular dental examinations, a balanced diet, and good oral hygiene at home will help your child enjoy a lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles.
